De-silting and then maintaining a large pond or lake with a sizable watercourse feeding is often a challenge, since re-purposing large volumes of removed silt can be difficult. Therefore, designing the restored pond or lake with this in mind is essential to protect time and the investment of de-silting work. This can be achieved by creating one or more deep pools separated by baffles wide enough to accommodate a machine for future de-silting requires. The deep pools and baffles are all hidden beneath water level, but revealed when the water level is dropped so that the pools become separated from the main pond or lake and can be independently de-silted.
Another effective approach is to divert the watercourse through a pipe, therefore by-passing the pond or lake and taking the silt with it. We will often use both of these techniques to effectively prevent and manage re-silting.
